That’s right!  It’s finally here!

I’m sure that I’ve lost about 85% of you already, so let me get you up to speed.  Emergence Day is, in the fictional world of Gears of War, the day the Locusts invaded the humans of Sera.  Back here on earth, it’s the day that Gears of War is officially available in every store on the planet.  It’s also a day of celebration for the 360 community. 

A number of big events are planned, from prize-dealing tournaments to videos and other freebies.  So far, the only content I’m aware of (via Major Nelson) is a free gamerpic, free theme, and free video.  Luckily, there are a TON of prizes and events going on all day.  For details on everything going down, check out the official Emergence Day page on XBox.com.
