I was heart broken a few days ago when I found out that I’d have to wait until the end of the month.  As it turns out, that’s not so.

I just recieved my “Order Shipped” notification from Nintendo.  w00t!  Since I paid for expedited shipping, it might get here in time after all.  Cool beans!

This should give some hope to those of you in my situation.  Go check your inbox!

They like me!! They really like me!! Kotaku, the gaming blog of choice for any discerning gamer, has posted about my recent encounter with the Best Buy PS3 shoppers and a few cups of hot cocoa. I can die a happy man now. 😀

If you want to read the comments being made about my little endeavor, there’s a whole slew of them over at Kotaku – most of them glowing.

This has totally made my day. Fuck that – my year. Now if I can only get a mention from 4cr, bbps and from the lord Jesus Christ himself Chris Kohler, you can put me on a raft and sail me down the river. The day I get a mention from Kohler will be the day I know there really IS a Santa Claus. 🙂

The Official Skinny on Wii Component Cables by jimmycanuck

Color me disappointed.  First we were told that component cables would only be available online.  Then we were told that they would be available in certain retailers at launch.  Now it looks like things have changed again.

I recieved an email last night that I didn’t get around to until today.  It was to let me know (as I’d inquired before) that cables were now available for order from the official Nintendo store.  I called Nintendo to place my order, only to discover that they were already sold out.  I could place an order, but it wouldn’t be shipped out until November 28th.  So the logical thing for me to do would be to just buy a set of cables when I went in to pick up my console on Sunday, right?

Not so much – according to the recording that informed me of the cables being out of stock in the Nintendo store, we won’t be seeing component cables in retail outlets until mid to late December.

And now I’m depressed.  My GC looks like shit on my shiny new HDTV – I’m not expecting much better for the Wii until I get my components at the end of the month.

Best of EAMB – Jawa GameCrawler by jimmycanuck

Not too long ago, in a galaxy not too far away (the UK to be precise), someone took a classic Millenium Falcon toy and hacked an XBox into it. The results were astounding. I decided to take a looksee into what DarkOps (the modders behind this wonder) were up to now. I’m even more awestruck than before.

Locked within this 1977 Jawa Sandcrawler is a Gamecube, an N64, and an Atari 2600. They call it the Jawa Gamecrawler. I call it frickin’ sweet. Everything from controller ports to cartirdge slots are hidden within the design of the crawler. More details and pictures are available here, as well as elsewhere on their website.

hey have one other project that I thought was kinda cute, too. They’ve hacked a Dreamcast into a Fisher Price Millenium Falcon which can be seen here. For more on what they’re up to, visit DarkOps website.

(Back in the summer of 2005 I had my first moderately successful venture in the world of blogging, Elvis Ate My Blog. The reasons for it’s demise have become unclear through the fog of history, but for whatever reason I abadoned it like a red-headed stepchild. From time to time I’ll be posting some of the best posts that originally appeared on EAMB. This is one of those times.)

This was the “Random Pic of the Week” over at Technogad, so I thought I should hijack it and share the fishy love.  For those of you into random gadgets and obscure tech, Technogad is a fantastic blog bringing you info about a dozen or so bizzare toys every day.  Well worth adding to your list of daily readables.

The Original Playstation – Looks like Shit, Sounds Like Gold by jimmycanuck

The wife and I were wandering through Wal-Mart to see if they’d set up any of their PS3 or Wii displays, and even though we didn’t find anything like that (good luck putting that together at the last minute, midnight crew) we were quite surprised to see a number of PSOne’s sitting on top of the glass display cases.  The PSOne’s having not been there in recent years, we were absolutely dumbfounded.  Why would they be bringing PSOne’s out of storage to put on display – especially when they’ll be taking up space during a two-launch weekend?!?!

The good folks over at bits bytes pixels & sprites have shed a little light on the subject.  They’ve linked to an article over at MSNBC that claims the Playstation 1 is considered by most audiophiles the best high fidelity CD Player ever created.  It may not explain why they were sitting out on display at Wal-Mart this week, but it might just give you a good reason to go pick one up.
