See folks? Winning is just that easy. Stay tuned for more contests to come. And if you entered the contest and didn’t win, just remember – the album is on sale as of today!

Just a reminder, tommorow is the day that Go-Kart Records releases their fantastic children’s album Brats on the Beat: Ramones for Kids.  It’s also the day we’ll be drawing a name out of our virtual hat to give away a copy, courtesy of Go-Kart!  We’re well into the last 24 hours before the draw so if you haven’t entered, get on with it already!  😛

Down in the states, they’re scoring this wicked pre-order t-shirt for the Wii, featuring Reggie in a classic Bruce Lee pose. What do I get up here in Canada? Probably a coupon book and a free copy of Geist. LAME…

As of tomorrow morning at 11am, I’ll only be 48 hours away from getting the Wii in my grubby little hands.  It’s so close I can taste it.  As such, I thought it was time for me to really nail down what I’d be bringing home with me on Sunday.

Obviously the console and an extra wiimote and nunchuck would in my bag, as well as a copy of Zelda, but somehow that just didn’t feel like enough.  Luckily, EB is having a fantastic trade-in offer – trade in 3 games and get a Wii launch title.  So I ravaged my collection and brought a whopping 17 titles along with me – after all, the chances of them all qualifying for the offer were pretty slim.  I was fortunate enough to have 9 titles that met the requirements – which meant 3 more titles to add to my Sunday grab bag!

I decided on Rayman Raving Rabbids, Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam, and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz.  Of course, that left 8 titles I’d brought with me that I could still use to get standard trade-in value, which left me enough store credit to cover the cost of the extra wiimote and nunchuck as well as most of the money needed for a copy of Red Steel.  The best part of all of this?  I was able to bring Downhill Jam and Monkey Ball home with me today.  🙂

So to summarize, here’s everything I’ll have on launch day;

  • – Wii Console
  • – Extra Wiimote and Nunchuck
  • – Wii Sports
  • – The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • – Rayman Raving Rabbids
  • – Red Steel
  • – Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam
  • – Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
  • – and on November 28th… component cables!

Jealous yet?  😉

And for the record, Downhill Jam totally gets my nomination for worst box art of the year.

The Official Skinny on Wii Component Cables by jimmycanuck

Color me disappointed.  First we were told that component cables would only be available online.  Then we were told that they would be available in certain retailers at launch.  Now it looks like things have changed again.

I recieved an email last night that I didn’t get around to until today.  It was to let me know (as I’d inquired before) that cables were now available for order from the official Nintendo store.  I called Nintendo to place my order, only to discover that they were already sold out.  I could place an order, but it wouldn’t be shipped out until November 28th.  So the logical thing for me to do would be to just buy a set of cables when I went in to pick up my console on Sunday, right?

Not so much – according to the recording that informed me of the cables being out of stock in the Nintendo store, we won’t be seeing component cables in retail outlets until mid to late December.

And now I’m depressed.  My GC looks like shit on my shiny new HDTV – I’m not expecting much better for the Wii until I get my components at the end of the month.

The Original Playstation – Looks like Shit, Sounds Like Gold by jimmycanuck

The wife and I were wandering through Wal-Mart to see if they’d set up any of their PS3 or Wii displays, and even though we didn’t find anything like that (good luck putting that together at the last minute, midnight crew) we were quite surprised to see a number of PSOne’s sitting on top of the glass display cases.  The PSOne’s having not been there in recent years, we were absolutely dumbfounded.  Why would they be bringing PSOne’s out of storage to put on display – especially when they’ll be taking up space during a two-launch weekend?!?!

The good folks over at bits bytes pixels & sprites have shed a little light on the subject.  They’ve linked to an article over at MSNBC that claims the Playstation 1 is considered by most audiophiles the best high fidelity CD Player ever created.  It may not explain why they were sitting out on display at Wal-Mart this week, but it might just give you a good reason to go pick one up.
